The ability to check the integrity of music files.
One way or another in large collections there always seems to be a few corrupt files. Existing programs to check music file integrity don't work well on large collections and it would be great if this was an integral part of Bliss.

Add ability to filter and print the activity log
After Bliss has completed its library scan, it would be good to be able to identify those albums which Bliss touched and, more importantly, which ones it didn't (or couldn't).
Being able to filter the activity log by "found non-compliant" or "modified" and then printing that filtered list would make it much easier to then go through and manually correct those albums

Album art for other file types...
I just realised that a lot of my music library is not even beig scanned by Bliss. I'm certain at least that all my files in musepack format (*.mpc) don't even appear in Bliss. Could this be fixed to at least scan the folder name (Artist - Album) even if Bliss cant read the mpc tags?
Thanks for writing such a great program!
Many thanks,

Ability to exclude files fron being scanned at all
Having spent many hours tidying up metadata and artwork it's really tedious to have Bliss rescan everything. Classic example is with artwork - many files have incorrect artwork (mostly classical) but of course Bliss will report these as Compliant (as artwork exists) but those that are OK I need to exclude from the scan to leave me just the ones I need to change. I suppose this is a tricky one as it would presumably mean adding a field to file itself that said 'exclude from Bliss' (and could be removed if needed).

Allow different cover art for each CD in a multi-CD set
I have several multi-CD sets in my music library. I store each CD in a separate album directory. Each CD has the same album name, but a different discnumber tag. Some of these multi-CD sets have different cover art for each CD in the set. Example: Yesyears by Yes. It is a 4-CD set, with different covert art for each CD: http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/B000002JNV/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_all
I would like bliss to treat each album with the same album name but different discnumber and different album directory, as a separate entity, and allow specification of different cover art for each CD in the set.

Vortexbox Service Manager option
I'm running Bliss as an installed service on my Vortexbox appliance. I was expecting to be able to see the status of the Bliss service in the Service Manager menu, with the option to stop/start as per the other services like SBS, DAAP, DLNA etc. Is this possible, or am I missing something?

Show artwork size in Kb when choosing an alternative
To display the artwork size in Kb that has been found so the user can then make a choice of datasize over quality. Larger datasize artwork does not always mean higher quality.

Use the folder and file name to help identify songs, albums and other tags when no tags exist
When a file is taged with just the words 'Album' / 'Artist' or just rubbish, try and identify the tag details from the folder or path name. Also give an option to see the path on the Album (or Artist) page so you can copy and paste the details into the right place from the path manually

Provide an init.d script with install for Linux users
I'm struggling to get Bliss set up as a service in Ubuntu 11.10 that auto starts on boot and can be stopped/started/restarted with the standard Linux "service bliss start" style commands.
I'd really appreciate it if you could include an init.d script with the Linux install, or provide instructions for setting this up on the blisshq website.

Monitoring a master music server library but storing music local
I am storing all my music on a central music server in the house. New music is discovered and added to iTunes local library (in order for the kids to be able to play music offline or when they are out of the house) using iTunes Folder Watch. But as I see it both the old folder watch software and the new Library Toolkit cannot monitor changes to music on the music server and then syncronize to the local iTunes Library. The new adverticed facility where library toolkit should be able to monitor changes is only working if iTunes media…

View track on iTunes
It would be good if you can make a button that would navigate us to the track within iTunes. This way we can change the name of an album or view the other fields for editing. Love your product! It has saved me so much time and effort. Thanks!

not to rescan all after adding a Genre
Each time I allow a new Genre to Bliss starts rescanning every single file.
Even if there is a good reason for that I suggest it does so only if requested.26 votes -
Username and password to access bliss
An admin user and password account is a must. Authorisation should be delivered via HTTP basic authentication at least.
Later (but this is not the subject of this idea), further accounts with read only and/or write access would be great. Access control could allow read/write access to certain things such as certain albums, artists etc. Some accounts would be able to reorganise certain things. This would be especially useful if future API functions are made available.

Automatically rename genres
Is it possible to automatically rename genre? Otherwise it always asks to confirm.

Better quality album art...
I end up manually updating my album art, as the quality is not good enough. I always select a resolution of 500x500, but sometimes album art is the correct resolution but very compressed and poor quality. I end up doing a manual search on google images for 500x500 artwork and find a much better quality image. Is there any way Bliss can look at compression or file size and choose better quality images automatically? Maybe extra sources for album art would help, if this is possible.

Ability to enter missing track number (or set to 00) for filenames
I have a number of pieces that are the result of recording old cassettes, or sometimes albums, or pieces that I have recorded live, or lectures, or whatever, that simply do not HAVE track numbers.
Bliss complains that they're uncompliant, because they don't HAVE a track number... which is fine. But I have to bring up some external tag editor because BLISS doesn't let me enter a track number. Ideally, a "if track is missing utterly, number them in alpha order in that directory automatically, and don't ask me" function would be best. Or, perhaps, a "Set to 00" button,…

Better image downsampling algorithm
Very high-resolution covers look quite ugly the way bliss downscales them at the moment. The problem is that you're probably using bilinear interpolation. This produces aliasing artefacts when downsampling.
I don't really know how to do that in Java, but if you need more info on the image processing side of things, I do know about those.
This is obviously not the most important thing in the world :)

Ability to define file permissions for Unix systems
When Bliss modifies files on a Unix system it sets default file permissions of 644 using whatever owner and group that Bliss is running as. I would like to be able to define what permissions get applied to files, so I don't have to manually alter permissions if I want other users to be able to modify my music files.

drop "The" from result when using group token
When using group to create a folder structure, is it possible to drop "The" from the result? example, The Beatles would result in B, not T.
