Web based tag editor
Implement a tag editor style user interface in bliss, to enable full web based tag editing. This would make bliss an ideal complement to music servers. bliss can be installed on the server meaning there is no requirement to add software to laptops/desktops/tablets, you can just perform tag editing from your browser.
Future ideas (to create separate ideas for):
- Ability to distinguish between id3vX versions and independently edit or delete.25 votes -
Add genre capitalization option
It would be nice if bliss could enforce capitalization of genre tags. At the moment, it seems bliss sets all new genre tags to lowercase, but leaves the old ones as they are.
Consistency would be nice.
2 votesWe actually added genre capitalisation support to the case rules in release 20150825 – http://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2015/09/01/new-release-20150825-trim-rules/

Automating Uncompliant File Path fixing
It would be nice if there was an optiion to have Bliss automatically repair any Uncompliant File Path issues rather than have you click on "Fix File Paths" for every single album.

Option of automatically adding ID3v2 tags where required
I have been working on fixing some of the uncompliant albums. A fair few of them are missing the ID3v2 tag, in which case all that is required to fix (rescan) is to press the "add ID3v2 tag" button. This could be done automatically. Maybe provide a setting for this "automatically add ID3v2 tag if missing" or ask to apply to all when pressing this type of button (once or three times). Would save a lot of unnecessary manual work.
Great program by the way.
Cheers
12 votesThis feature is now complete: http://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2011/10/18/new-release-20111005-upgrade-to-id3v2-automatically/index.html
I’ll add the ability to “disallow” tags later, and maybe cover different file formats. Please create separate ideas for those.
WRT the cover art rule, this will remain as-is, but when no ID3v2 tag is encountered an additional response will be to enable the tag type rule to require ID3v2.3.

Possibility to add folder art as well as embedded art
Apparently no folder art is added if the art is embedded into the music files. It would be nice if both can be done, if selected.

An Option for the rules to get the first letter of the Artist to seperate the Artist in ABC.. folder
An Option for the rules to get the first letter of the Artist to seperate the Artists in a ABC.. folder structure.
5 votesThis is now released. The variable syntax is:
Which would mean group start characters of album_artist where the groups are three characters long (e.g. ABC). You can vary that length and you can have any variable in place of album_artist.
I’m not working on the ‘dummy’ or wildcards yet.

The ability to monitor more than one location on a computer.
Those of us with large collections have to put them on several HDDs. I would like to be able to monitor my D:/audio & E:/audio concurrently.

Automatic song identification and tagging of untagged files
bliss should be able to identify music files without tags or empty tags and offer to tag them with information from online music databases.

Please post refinements as separate ideas in the ideas forum.

Differentiate between a fixed and already compliant albums
Currently Bliss searched through my collection and it indicates it has "fixed" tags. However, all it has really done is analyse them as the majority of tags are alredy compliant with the rules set.
I would like to see a spearate counter of tracks that are already compliant, leaving the fix counter for when a fix has really been applied.
At the same time, the ability to subset the real fixes would be good.
8 votesSince 20110615 (http://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2011/06/21/new-release-20110615-activity-stream/) a global activity log shows what albums were already compliant. In part, this fixes this particular idea, but in addition I have created a separate idea for compliance stats: http://bliss.uservoice.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/1909959-summary-of-stats

Make it easier to see if there is alternative art
On the overview screen you click the 'pencil' to change art. Sometimes there has been no art found, but you must click on the pencil to see this. It would be better if some indication was given on the overview screen if there are alternatives found.
11 votesThis feature is now released: http://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2012/01/24/new-release-20120119-cover-art-alternatives/index.html
Currently the album art alternatives are loaded in a list format (see a screenshot in the comments).

Browsing by artist
Currently bliss only allows browsing by album. I would like to be able to browse by artist and examine the compliancy of albums for each particular artist. If an album is uncompliant, its artist should be uncompliant too.

Adding 'browse' upload option for adding album art
There is an excellent custom album art option today for adding a URL to the albym art image. Sometimes you have the album art on a local file, and a quick way to add album art through BLISS would be to upload it through a 'browse' button providing a standard explorer window that you manually locate the desired image file.

warn for missing & fill in missing tags info
To make good use of the search engine it's important that tags contain all relevant info. Like year, music genre etc. This is often missing in the embedded info
15 votesThis has now been released… see the release note here: http://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2010/11/28/mp3-tagging-software-new-release-20101120/
Future requests for data other than year and genre should be in separate ideas.

Add Rescan button
A Rescan button would be useful to allow manually initiation of bliss scanning the music library to look for new albums. An Abort Scan button, to stop the scan, would also be useful.
This is similar to how SqueezeBox Server works.15 votesThis feature is complete and released: http://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2011/04/26/new-release-20110421-pause-rescan/ .
Alongside the changes for http://bliss.uservoice.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/1336719-make-startup-scan-faster-don-t-rescan-on-every-s there will be a pause button to stop bliss listening to the file system. When this occurs, any currently running rule assessment/fixes will be completed and then the scan will pause.
A start scan button will re-start the scan from where it left off.
When bliss is started, it will no longer start the scan automatically. You will have to press the start button for the scan to begin.

Add option to save preexisting cover before overwriting
Could you add an option to save a copy of any preexisting cover, whether embedded and/or standalone to a user-defined filename before bliss replaces? Would be a prerequisite before I unleashed bliss on my entire library where bliss would predominantly be looking for larger artwork and I would want to confim quality before removing the preexisting coverart.
10 votesThis feature was released in build 20100606.

A Mac version of bliss
bliss currently runs on Windows and Linux. A Mac version would obviously be useful for Mac users; also Mac Minis are used a lot for storing and listening to digital music. Installation on a Mac Mini would make a lot of sense!
25 votesI’m pleased to announce bliss for Mac OS X was released on the weekend of the 9th October.

Rule to allow/convert different image formats
I have several albums for which bliss inserted a cover.gif file in the album directory. What I want is only cover.jpg files, not gif files.
Examples:
artist = Stephen Gately, album = New Beginnings
artist = The New Tradition Chorus, album = Broadway
artist = Grandma's Boys, album = When the Toy Soldiers Marched on Parade...
artist = Platinum, album = Auld Lang Syne
artist = Shania Twain, album = Come on Over
artist = The Beach Boys, album = Made in U.S.A.21 votesI’m pleased to say this is released: https://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2016/12/19/release-20161213-album-cover-image-format/

Files missing from the Linux archive
On the "How to instal" page you say to run "java -jar bliss-install.jar" but there is no "bliss-install.jar. Also, you say to run it by going to the "bin" folder, but there's no such folder. What package did you put for download? :)
3 votesI updated the instructions page to refer to the correct file name.
I also updated the linux help page as Ron suggested.

Check for photo not available
I have several albums for which bliss asked me to select from several choices. I selected a choice, and bliss tried to get the picture from flickr. The photo was not available, and a cover.gif was installed in the album directory. The cover.gif image said "This photo is currently unavailable".
Examples:
artist = Jim Croce, album = 36 All-Time Greatest Hits
artist = Max Lasser's Ark, album = Into The Rainbow
artist = Branford Marsalis, album = Royal Garden Blues2 votesThis is now completed. The actual problem was that we weren’t handling data from our Google search properly. This affected Flickr searches particularly badly.

Duplicate removal has now been completed: https://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2018/05/22/release-20180516-duplicate-removal/ and so this idea has been marked as so.
New ideas developing the idea further should be posted separately.
The earlier first iteration for duplicate detection was released here: https://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2018/04/27/release-20180424/ .
