An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment Yep, fair point. I think we should decide how to distil this to a more succinct idea because it feels to me like both of your ideas are requiring the same thing...
An error occurred while saving the comment As in my answer to your other idea, the year tag is a result of the release if a release is specific in the ALBUM_NAME field. If it's "Bad" it should be 1987. If it's "Bad 25" it should be 2012.
It seems to me you need a wholesale tag correction approach that prefers original releases and tries to keep albums whole. But this might be difficult if the tracks are in different folders.
An error occurred while saving the comment "In this situation it should be better that the script pulls them apart and treats them as singles, so I or the script can give them there own art and other meta data."
If the tags are correctly assigned it should do. In this case the tracks have been explicitly assigned to the album "80 Hits of the 80's" - http://musicbrainz.org/release/7f5c06bc-6165-4412-8992-c6891069654f .
Where did these tags come from in the first place?
An error occurred while saving the comment "File not saved - other tracks in 1985,1988,1987,1989,1980 are from different albums.
I don't think it's wise (who am I to tell ??) to do a crosscountrytrackie over different directories. "
This is related to saving a cover.jpg in an album folder. bliss is not doing this, because the tracks in the album this relates to are in folders that have tracks from other albums in them.
I can see this in your debug archive - you have a lot of files in folders like "F:\Top 40 1980-Heden\1987\" for instance.
So I think bliss is doing what you want - *not* saving a file.
An error occurred while saving the comment First, about the Michael Jackson - Bad.mp3 issue. You have two copies of this track, I assume the one you are interested in is the one within the album "Bad".
The tags for this particular file give the year as "1987". bliss groups all the tracks with the same album name together, and they share release year too.
There is also one track assigned to an album called "Bad 25" in the same folder. This is a track "Leave Me Alone" that's also normally part of "Bad". Is "Bad 25" the collection name you expected? If so, you need to assign "Bad 25" as the album name for each of the "Bad" tracks.
The fastest way to do that is to find "Bad", click it to see the album detail, then edit the name to "Bad 25" and click "Save". You can also use the "Tags" page.
An error occurred while saving the comment I've sent you an invite to a Dropbox folder. Can you upload the archive there? I'll also take a look at your other issues, but they may require separate resolution.
An error occurred while saving the comment Can you send me a debug archive so I can understand what the tags are currently? See http://www.blisshq.com/support/reporting-problems.html
In theory, bliss should be able to distinguish between different releases...

An error occurred while saving the comment Can I confirm what you are seeing? Something like:
album name/track artist 1 - track 1.flac
album name/track artist 1, track artist 2 - track 2.flac
album name/track artist 1, different track artist 2 - track 3.flacAnd so on? You really just want:
album name/track artist 1 - track 1.flac
album name/track artist 1 - track 2.flac
album name/track artist 1 - track 3.flacCan you explain why <album artist> cannot be used? You might get "Various" for many compilation albums. Is that why you don't want that?
Maybe this could be solved with a new parameter to the <track artist> token, configurable in custom file organisation patterns:
<track artist:index=1>
Meaning: the first track artist.
Or something like that...

An error occurred while saving the comment Can you send me a debug archive? The artist is "deduced" and different tags can have an effect and also the location of the file (if there are other files in the same folder). See http://www.blisshq.com/support/reporting-problems.html

An error occurred while saving the comment Makes sense. Looking into this more it seems this is known as ignoring the article for a title: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/151447
An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks. Is this just the sorting of albums in the bliss interface, or how they appear in other software too, i.e. via the ALBUMSORT tag?

An error occurred while saving the comment I thought we had a separate idea for different rules for different groups of albums! Feel free to add it. My feeling is that rulesets should be applicable depending on a set of criteria. One of these could be location - which folder the files are in. Others could be whether the album is a compilation, a single, in a given genre etc etc.
An error occurred while saving the comment I really like this idea (and its generalisation to other music players/environments).

An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks, yes I've often thought of a dashboard style overview with charts, stats etc. This would become the default home page.
Generally, scans don't have to scan the entire music folder... you can scan individual albums too. I generally do not make the concept of a "scan" so prominent as the individual musical entities and their compliance.

An error occurred while saving the comment What is the folder you are looking for? Normally, under OS X, any networked folders will be under /Volumes .
You can find the location of your iTunes media folder by following this: http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT1391 see "Find and change the iTunes Media folder location".

An error occurred while saving the comment Do you think genre should be used for this? There are rating tags, to which you could assign a low number... Trouble with rating tags is that they apply to the file, and ratings tend to be subjective...

An error occurred while saving the comment It isn't, but I really like this idea, it plays into my idea of "minimum viable metadata" - http://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2014/07/29/3cs-completeness/
Also, what about album artwork? That is a "tag" if it is embedded.

An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks Ivan. Can you state exact examples... I try to get roman numerals working for instance but they currently require a well known prefix e.g. "CD II".
Also, language based rules sound like a great idea.
An error occurred while saving the comment Nice idea. I was hoping http://ideas.blisshq.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/1928497-ignore-compliance-for-certain-albums could also cover this, but I'll leave this open and close if the above does cover case rules...

An error occurred while saving the comment Nice idea, generic text processing ideas like this are the next step for bliss I think!

An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks, also see http://ideas.blisshq.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/1952369-dynamic-playlists
Although I used Music IP too "back in the day" I can't remember how it worked. Did it use the "sonic signature" to understand mood, style etc? Or did it use the signature to identify the music, then look up mood and style tags online?
The latter could be done by bliss already with a bit more work.

An error occurred while saving the comment The composer tag should be on the Tags page, so long as at least one file is tagged with it. It should appear under "Choose columns".
An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks... but what should be done with it? Do you mean automatic population of the tag? Simply displaying it in the bliss UI?

An error occurred while saving the comment Progress is dependent on votes and my time :)
I envisage the list is basically http://localhost:3221/musicmodel but tweaked in different ways, depending on the columns you need. You should be able to see all the albums there with their current compliance.
That list can also be seen in the UI btw... just use the non-compliant filter. However, it shows albums that are non-compliant for any reason, so if you have the file org rule enabled then an album which has non-compliant file paths but compliant artwork will still be in the list. See http://ideas.blisshq.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/2163167-filter-albums-by-compliance-type-e-g-all-albums-w
An error occurred while saving the comment Nice idea... maybe a generalised "export" feature would be useful. CSV would be the obvious default to start with. See http://ideas.blisshq.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/2643524-the-ability-to-catalogue-the-library for something similar.

An error occurred while saving the comment Was this an image you picked from the list of alternatives?
The problem is that this particular image cannot be inspected by the code inside bliss... possibly the image is slightly corrupt (this happens). We should deal with this better.

An error occurred while saving the comment Hey Walt. In general, when you refer to responsiveness, do you mean responsiveness in the UI as-is (e.g. click a button, takes an age to respond), or the fact that the flow and layout of the UI as-is is causing the responsiveness (it takes too many clicks to do something)?
>>> Walt >>>
If I approve a suggested change, like a genre update, does bliss immediately go off and work on storing that change and rescanning that album? Or does it file that instruction away for processing in the background and continue to pay attention to me?
>>>It passes it to a queue of work being done, and immediately returns. In the meantime, the album should be marked "in progress" which should show the spinner icon. Yeah, you can do stuff while that's working. More progress reports may be helpful here... there's the delay in case the queue is full (this is common when a wider scan is ongoing) plus some changes can take a while to complete (particularly if you are connected to your music files via wireless, for instance). Are you seeing long delays? I've long wondered about treating user manual actions as higher priority.
>>> Walt >>>
I don't know if James's idea is the perfect solution, but I definitely think he's onto something here. Decoupling the performing of the tasks (by bliss) from the foreground UI would make the user's workflow less dependent upon the time it takes to apply a change, rescan the album, and update the page.
>>>This isn't my reading of what James is saying, but I may be wrong. I thought James was suggesting moving from an "object oriented" view of tagged concepts (albums, artists etc) to a "process [or action] oriented" view ("Fill in missing artwork", "Fix music files") which takes you through the workflow of fixing those things. But as I say, I may be wrong.
An error occurred while saving the comment This is basically what the Inbox is an attempt to do. How do you think that could be improved to satisfy these requirements? I suppose it doesn't show already-fixed items for starters. The activity view shows that, although with too much other info, possibly.

An error occurred while saving the comment It's just take, take, take with you Shawn ;)
An error occurred while saving the comment This is meant for access from the operating system, e.g. in Windows Explorer.
An error occurred while saving the comment Thanks. Do you mean in a file explorer or similar? Right click a folder or file?
Thanks, take a look at my comment in the other thread - http://ideas.blisshq.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/6863098-that-albums-within-the-name-xx-xxxx-or-xxxx-xxxx and then we can decide what to do about this one too.
