Ignore albums based on name
... this will give better results in (personal) collections.
I like album (or better "track") art, yes I know; it's childish ;-)
But in my collections, I love to see, lots of different art. With album art like "the best of 1999", my collection of 1999 is no fun to watch.
Alright, the adult part of this is, that the match result will be much better by the tracks within this directory. And that's what I'm aiming for.
Maybe the possibility to set this on or off?

Thanks, I edited the title...

Ok, made a vote, 3 points, on the tag correction suggestion and placed a remark.
I hope it's enough.Fine, lets see...
If it is possible, I think a regular expression to ignore specified albums should give the best results in a quick way. So we have to find the expressions, most used for "non artist collection" albums.
The expressions could be;"TOP XX(XXXX)", "XXXX", "Hits XXXX-XXXX" ("XXXX-XXXX)", "The XX's Collections" (XX's), "Something with Volume XX (Volume X or XX)", "Classics", "XX Top Dance (XX Top)"
AND a search possibility for ignoring language exceptions like "Nederlandstalige hits...", "Wolkenserie", "Deel(Part)", "Absolute", "Numero Uno" etc.

So I think you should vote for http://ideas.blisshq.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/5746094-tag-correction-facility and add a comment about the heuristics to prefer older or "original" releases.
I'm surprised that doesn't have many votes. I think if it gains momentum it will be popular.
So shall we narrow this down to a way of ignoring albums depending on their title? E.g. specify a search string or regular expression to ignore albums?

Yep, that's probably what's needed in a first glance.
The last paragraph is an remark on the use of several words in album titles.
Examples are;1997 Dance Collection,
Best 100 #1 songs of the 2004's,
2003 Top 50,
MTV's Top 40 of 2010,
Sky Top 1000 of all time,
Etc. -
Ok, as with the other thread, I wonder if we should distil this to one overarching idea.
It feels like you need tag correction/import which follows certain heuristics - one of these being "prefer earlier releases".
I don't understand your last paragraph... sorry!

"The year is related to the release on which the track appears. I suppose you could say that if there's no album name it may refer to the year first recorded. But the point is that you wouldn't decide on an album name due to a year, because the year is determined by when the album was released"
True, but in most cases, the album release year will be the same as the track release year. In the other cases the year should be "as close as possible" to the track release year.
The big question is; How to get the right Album name (earliest release),
when there is no album name given? For our purpose, the answer could be:
Track release year (OR nearest to track release year) = Album release year
Album release year = Album name.I think we went a little of topic here, but very interesting!
But back, on "track" ;-) I'm still thinking that were better off, without the "year", "(Radio)Station" and "Brand" collections in de the album naming and album art.

"So in my opinion you have to start with no metadata. So what you got? Probably only, for example; Michael Jackson - Bad.mp3. So the first match should be to find the release year.
This should be the earliest date in relation with the artist name and track name. If the database is filled properly then it will come back with 1987 (same year as the Bad album). So now we have artist name, track and release year. This should be enough to find the album name. After this we have also the right genre (if filled in of course) and the right art."

I agree that a lot of the time only the earliest date for a particular release is of interest. Note there's also specific 'original release date' fields in ID3 (TORY/TDOR).

My whole interest within the mp3 matching was started when my collection went out of control.
Nothing seem to match and fit, like metadata and art. So one of my actions was to kill all the metadata from all my mp3 files (~17000 files). I have use id3kill for this.
After this I went on a search for matching software and I have found Song Kong too work with. But Song Kong leaves a lot of gaps. So I'm using Bliss for filling op these gaps and for the artwork. So in my opinion you have to start with no metadata. So what you got? Probably only, for example; Michael Jackson - Bad.mp3. In an answer too your question; for an individual track, ONLY the earliest (or oldest) release data / year is important. The other dates will be for sure, be of "best of...", "Ultimate...", "bla bla collection" or other named collections. But I think that every music lover, wants to have his favorite songs to be matched to the Artists album and not to a XYZ collection.

Ok. You need to bear in mind that bliss is "release oriented" in that it concentrates on finding metadata for releases (albums, singles, EPs) rather than individual tracks. For instance, individual tracks can appear on many albums, so how do we know which album to assign it to?
We could of course introduce a "track oriented" approach, see:

Hi Dan,
No problem.
That's right, because this will give a much better match too the original track/album from the artist.Some examples are;
Classic Drive: Hitchin' a Ride (disc 2) - Various Artists
Classic Drive: Back to the 80's - Various Artists
Dance Classics, Volume 13 - Various Artists
Dance Classics, Volume 16 - Various Artists
Dureco Wolkenserie, Volume 200
Golden Pop Music Edition 3 - 1976-1985 - Various Artists
Het beste uit de Top 40 van 1993 - Various ArtistsI think the idea is when you discard these sort of album names, there will be a better match to the separate tracks. In this case you will be able to work around the "Various Artist" issue.
As a comment to your last question, concerning the artwork; Yes.
I know also, that this will not work, in most of the cases.
So matching too album names will be needed. In this case a relation, to the first release date, of the track, would be needed, for an better match to the album name. And discarding albums with "collection names" and "Various Artists" will make de match even better. -
Thanks for this, and thanks for the debug archive you sent separately. So you basically want to ignore certain albums? I wouldn't want to add a blanket ignore for all albums of a given name for all users!
Can you give some example of the album names you'd want ignored?
Note it is possible to ignore files and folders from the scan as per: http://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2011/08/16/new-release-20110809/
Or do you mean the album name shouldn't be used in the query for artwork... it should only be track name?

The same for albums with within the name "Volume X(XX)".
