An alpha grouping to speed navigating through artists and albums
A quick short-cut link menu across the top of the albums and artists web pages like [A][B][C][D]...[Z] to allow jumping ahead to the targeted album or artist. Far quicker than having to page through all items whether from beginning or end.

Yeah, that's a nice nuance actually.
Bear in mind this idea was proposed before the UI refresh. The page used to look like the attached (this explains the "yellow bar" bit in the OP).
I'm leaving it open because artists still can't be filtered by starting letter.
I'm not sure whether it will be expedient to implement "advance to letter, while leaving other letters visible" style UI. I had a quick look and it feels like there might be advantages but I can't quite make them clear in my head right now. But obviously this is always a possibility when the result set has a natural order. If you have any UX links to explain the advantages (and disadvantages) that would be handy.

Response to Dan's response:
The "Starts with..." in the Albums side bar only shows albums with the selected starting letter, which is useful. But what the anonymous suggestion is asking for is to jump to that letter in the middle of showing all albums, so you can still page back & forth through all albums with the selected letter as the starting point.
Similar usefulness applies for Artists page.

This is already there for artists - have you seen "Starts with" in the yellow bar? Shall I change this idea to just cover artists?
