Enforce zero, one or many separate cover art files
Different music systems/apps use different naming conventions, and it would be helpful to be able to rename and/or duplicate existing art to work with those. Rules could be added to allow multiple art files in a folder with certain names, or enforce that only one would remain with a certain name. Also, the rule should be able to enforce no separate art, or just ignore separate files altogether.

Work in progress...

Hmmm - I'm not 100% in agreement that metadata HAS TO be stored inside the music file, although I agree it's the most convenient place.

Art graphics is by definition meta - data and hence should be embedded inside the track file it belong to. Storing art graphics anywhere else can only be justified if it serves a different purpose. This must be reflected in the bliss rules engine and its configuration settings.

It would really depend on the software in the car's system. The software would have to be smart enough to choose the relevant artwork.
There are two reasons I can think of to do this: (1) to reduce processor load of the in-car system when resizing or (2) to choose an image resized with a potentially better algorithm (giving better results).
I'm not convinced either reason would be important enough to include such logic, so my guess is that in-car systems would not do that.

Would very much like to know if leaving multiple-sized image files facilitates album art display in different players, especially such as those in OEM car entertainment systems like Audi & BMW.

I too would like the option of no separate cover art files. Just embedded art only.

I'd also like there to to be an "Option to embed cover art only"

Do you mean *any* existing artwork? That's ok but some people have artist images etc in their folders.
Supporting any artwork would be do-able if this idea also implemented wildcards for filenames.

You need Bliss to be able to be configured to ignore folders that have existing artwork

Thanks. I think this would be covered by http://ideas.blisshq.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/1608043-enforce-zero-one-or-many-separate-cover-art-files - by configuring many cover art files with specific names you could import any images for "unwashed" albums.

Merged in idea "Option to embed cover art only":
"Since we have ability to create new tags from V1... We should be able to force embedded cover art only (no separate jpg files)"

Echoing Pauls comment, embed only means good things for me

I have all MP3s..... with 3v2.3 tags

Thanks Cliff. I'll just change the idea name to "Enforce zero, one or many separate cover art files". This captures the idea I think.
I'm going to close http://bliss.uservoice.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/579375-saving-an-image-file-in-the-album-directory-should because this idea is a more powerful generalisation of the old idea.

Adding Dan's comments because I think they summarize this suggestion much better than myself:
"I have wondered about making the separate file optional. In addition I could say "enforce one piece of art" or "enforce multiple, with these names". So the choice would be: 0 separate files, 1 separate file [the current way], 1 separate file (delete others) [your suggestion] and multiple separate files
Also the names could be parameterised, as some players work with images such as [album name].jpg."
