I have quite a few separate directories - so unfortunately I cannot use the auto file org, though I would very much like to.

I have a standard 'Albums' directory for artist albums, a separate 'Compilations' directory and I go one stage further with a 'Collections' directory tree for large compilation series, such as Fabric, DJ Kicks, Balance etc. for example ./Collections/FabricLive/FabricLive 46: DJ Blah or ./Collections/Fabric/Fabric 36: Whatever Music').

'Soundtracks' get their own root directory too. This could be done by filtering the genre tag when it is set to Soundtrack?

'Family' is used to store music for the kids, such as kids orientated compilations and audio books. This way I can create a separate music tree for their music streaming devices so they can only play music in that directory. This is probably the most difficult one to organise automatically; this could be done by preserving the original directory with multiple rules (see below) and looking for genre tags such as children, family etc?

So, ideally it would be great if multiple file org rules could be created, each based on a different, existing, directory within the root music directory, so the current directory tree can be preserved and files properly organised. For example, I can apply one rule to the 'Family' directory using the current syntax and the files will stay there, rather than being moved into the Albums directory and lost.

To define each directory, a rule could be created using the genre and compilation tags and some specific file pattern filters against the album titles, such as 'FabricLive' and 'DJ Kicks'. Multiple boolean patterns against other tags such as music label would help here too.

There are no other tools out there that can do this (that I can find), so this functionality would make Bliss even more unique, and my music collection may finally get completely organised!

Dan, when trying to identify compilations, amongst the different techniques you'll use, could you check if 'Album artist' tag is equal to some predefined value (I use "Various" string) ?

Yeah - we could also add support for a separate pattern for compilations which seems to be common for a lot of people.
