I withdrew my votes on that idea, as I see how it could solve varying artists nicely, but cannot see the relevance for albums unless it acutally moves an album out of the collection into another location. How should a "fused" album be? Duplicate tracks?
The possibility for editing Artist name for _all_ relevant albums at once in the Artist view is just fantastic and covers a lot of the need. Just need to spot the problems.
An error occurred while saving the comment Fred Larsen commentedI agree that for identified releases, using the canonical name can be a solution. But should this name then be applied to all other recognized variations of the artist name, or will it just fix the artist name for the given release?
Anyhow I think it is a pretty neat idea to have the "Varying names" or "Artists with similar names" filter in the Artists view, for helping to find potential problems.
An error occurred while saving the comment Fred Larsen commentedHi, thanks for the feedback.
I am sure that the number of artists that have variations like this is a minor part of the collection, so getting these filtered out saves a lot of work, avoiding to go manually through all the artists in the whole collection. What kind of rule are you suggesting?
I am not sure that automatic correction of the artist names is safe enough, taking into consideration names like R.E.M. and some bands that intentionally use all uppercase letters in their name, etc. But I may be wrong.Fred Larsen shared this idea · -

An error occurred while saving the comment Fred Larsen commentedJust repeating (this is so important to me):
Fusing/merging variations of an artist name would really help to fix one of the two most annoying flaws in my collection! No more "Brian Eno & David Byrne", "Brian Eno and David Byrne", Brian Eno And David Byrne", "Brian Eno-David Byrne" with multiple albums under each.
An error occurred while saving the comment Fred Larsen commentedI have "ROLLING STONES", "Rolling Stones", "The Rolling Stones", "Rolling Stones, The", "THE ROLLING STONES" and more.
Marking the relevant posts and merging them into one selected artist name like this ticket suggests would REALLY help cleaning up my collection. I have hundreds of these cases for artists. And for albums as well.
It could also be solved by dragging an incorrectly spelled artist onto the correct name, asking confirmation "Would you like to rename this artist 'ROLLING STONES" to "Rolling Stones"?
I give maximum votes to this suggestion.

An error occurred while saving the comment Fred Larsen commentedIf support for single flac file + cue is added, I suppose it would work for me if I compress all my wav's to flac and do an automated search and replace in my cue files (.wav->.flac).
So yes, please, that would probably solve my problem :-)

I agree.
So I think the suggested filter in the Artists view plus manual editing of artist names is a way to have full manual control and still save a lot of work + easily spot artist name problems.
