    Can I confirm what you are seeing? Something like:

    album name/track artist 1 - track 1.flac
    album name/track artist 1, track artist 2 - track 2.flac
    album name/track artist 1, different track artist 2 - track 3.flac

    And so on? You really just want:

    album name/track artist 1 - track 1.flac
    album name/track artist 1 - track 2.flac
    album name/track artist 1 - track 3.flac

    Can you explain why <album artist> cannot be used? You might get "Various" for many compilation albums. Is that why you don't want that?

    Maybe this could be solved with a new parameter to the <track artist> token, configurable in custom file organisation patterns:

    <track artist:index=1>

    Meaning: the first track artist.

    Or something like that...

    Can you send me a debug archive? The artist is "deduced" and different tags can have an effect and also the location of the file (if there are other files in the same folder). See http://www.blisshq.com/support/reporting-problems.html

    Makes sense. Looking into this more it seems this is known as ignoring the article for a title: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/151447

    Thanks. Is this just the sorting of albums in the bliss interface, or how they appear in other software too, i.e. via the ALBUMSORT tag?

    I thought we had a separate idea for different rules for different groups of albums! Feel free to add it. My feeling is that rulesets should be applicable depending on a set of criteria. One of these could be location - which folder the files are in. Others could be whether the album is a compilation, a single, in a given genre etc etc.

    Thanks, yes I've often thought of a dashboard style overview with charts, stats etc. This would become the default home page.

    Generally, scans don't have to scan the entire music folder... you can scan individual albums too. I generally do not make the concept of a "scan" so prominent as the individual musical entities and their compliance.

    What is the folder you are looking for? Normally, under OS X, any networked folders will be under /Volumes .

    You can find the location of your iTunes media folder by following this: http://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT1391 see "Find and change the iTunes Media folder location".

    Do you think genre should be used for this? There are rating tags, to which you could assign a low number... Trouble with rating tags is that they apply to the file, and ratings tend to be subjective...

    It isn't, but I really like this idea, it plays into my idea of "minimum viable metadata" - http://www.blisshq.com/music-library-management-blog/2014/07/29/3cs-completeness/

    Also, what about album artwork? That is a "tag" if it is embedded.

    Thanks Ivan. Can you state exact examples... I try to get roman numerals working for instance but they currently require a well known prefix e.g. "CD II".

    Also, language based rules sound like a great idea.

    Nice idea. I was hoping http://ideas.blisshq.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/1928497-ignore-compliance-for-certain-albums could also cover this, but I'll leave this open and close if the above does cover case rules...

    Thanks, also see http://ideas.blisshq.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/1952369-dynamic-playlists

    Although I used Music IP too "back in the day" I can't remember how it worked. Did it use the "sonic signature" to understand mood, style etc? Or did it use the signature to identify the music, then look up mood and style tags online?

    The latter could be done by bliss already with a bit more work.

    The composer tag should be on the Tags page, so long as at least one file is tagged with it. It should appear under "Choose columns".

    Thanks... but what should be done with it? Do you mean automatic population of the tag? Simply displaying it in the bliss UI?

    Progress is dependent on votes and my time :)

    I envisage the list is basically http://localhost:3221/musicmodel but tweaked in different ways, depending on the columns you need. You should be able to see all the albums there with their current compliance.

    That list can also be seen in the UI btw... just use the non-compliant filter. However, it shows albums that are non-compliant for any reason, so if you have the file org rule enabled then an album which has non-compliant file paths but compliant artwork will still be in the list. See http://ideas.blisshq.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/2163167-filter-albums-by-compliance-type-e-g-all-albums-w

    Nice idea... maybe a generalised "export" feature would be useful. CSV would be the obvious default to start with. See http://ideas.blisshq.com/forums/21939-bliss/suggestions/2643524-the-ability-to-catalogue-the-library for something similar.

    Was this an image you picked from the list of alternatives?

    The problem is that this particular image cannot be inspected by the code inside bliss... possibly the image is slightly corrupt (this happens). We should deal with this better.

    Hey Walt. In general, when you refer to responsiveness, do you mean responsiveness in the UI as-is (e.g. click a button, takes an age to respond), or the fact that the flow and layout of the UI as-is is causing the responsiveness (it takes too many clicks to do something)?

    >>> Walt >>>
    If I approve a suggested change, like a genre update, does bliss immediately go off and work on storing that change and rescanning that album? Or does it file that instruction away for processing in the background and continue to pay attention to me?
    >>>

    It passes it to a queue of work being done, and immediately returns. In the meantime, the album should be marked "in progress" which should show the spinner icon. Yeah, you can do stuff while that's working. More progress reports may be helpful here... there's the delay in case the queue is full (this is common when a wider scan is ongoing) plus some changes can take a while to complete (particularly if you are connected to your music files via wireless, for instance). Are you seeing long delays? I've long wondered about treating user manual actions as higher priority.

    >>> Walt >>>
    I don't know if James's idea is the perfect solution, but I definitely think he's onto something here. Decoupling the performing of the tasks (by bliss) from the foreground UI would make the user's workflow less dependent upon the time it takes to apply a change, rescan the album, and update the page.
    >>>

    This isn't my reading of what James is saying, but I may be wrong. I thought James was suggesting moving from an "object oriented" view of tagged concepts (albums, artists etc) to a "process [or action] oriented" view ("Fill in missing artwork", "Fix music files") which takes you through the workflow of fixing those things. But as I say, I may be wrong.

    This is basically what the Inbox is an attempt to do. How do you think that could be improved to satisfy these requirements? I suppose it doesn't show already-fixed items for starters. The activity view shows that, although with too much other info, possibly.

    @Robbert I think the why? link and the tiling in general has got a bit messier since the fluid UI update. I'll try to look into it some more. In the meantime I'd like to know more about your workflow, perhaps by email for now before we decide on action. Does the inbox help at all?
